The Fantasy Games Unlimited version of this game was never released. The original Phoenix Games version was perhaps the first rules light, diceless, story-telling game. The large box contains a 20 page 5" X 8" pamphlet of rules, a light cardstock skills sheet, and a 16" X 11" folding mounted map of Victorian London. |
ELEMENTARY WATSON: Can you solve . . . or plan . . . the perfect crime. |
The Perfect Crime! Can you solve it? or, would you prefer to plan it? Now you have the opportunity to test your skill at both . . . without dice or other elements of chance. |
As the master criminal - perhaps Moriarty himself - you plot your masterpiece of crime in the minutest detail. Then you seek to throw your adversaries off track in a race against time. |
Or as the master detective - Holmes or a famous rival - you know no crime is truly perfect. There are always clues, some obvious, others hidden. Somewhere, the criminal has slipped up. It is your task to discover how, find the clues, put them together and prove your case. |
Unlike other games of detection, ELEMENTARY WATSON combines the features of the traditional boardgame and the contemporary role-playing game. No two games, no two crimes, will be alike, as the players themselves, create each situation. |

The English Civil War is a 2 player game simulating the military conflict between Charles I and parliament 1642-1645. The game is relatively simple and play is fast. Combat uses an innovative technique which does an excellent job of simulating combat for this period of history. The troops of each side are divided into a central group and a flanking group on each side. The calvary skirmish on the flanks. The side which wins a flanking battle may be able to attack the central body, often with devastating effect. Historical military leaders have a role in combat and there are rules for Scottish intervention in the conflict between the Cavalier and Roundhead forces.. |
The 24" X 19" mounted gameboard is similar in appearance to the map in the original English version of King Maker. Other components include the rulebook and 148 die cut counters. The game is reviewed on page 31 issue #27 of Dragon Magazine. |
Hudson Hobbies still has some left over copies of The English Civil War. |
