Biological Manipulation (aka ‘BioPsi’)

This area of psionics is used in my Space Opera campaign instead of the ‘Force’ by a highly psionic race that engages in bio-manipulation of their two enslaved insect races.  If used, it is recommended that human-space psionics must learn it from the race in question.

Lvl 1= Deaden Pain:  Temporarily blocks all existing pain in subject as a result of injury, etc (provides total immunity from torture or pain touch if in place at the time of assault).  range = touch; cost = 5 stamina pts; duration = 1 hr.

Lvl 1= Death Trance:  Slows metabolism to such a degree that it simulates death, until a set condition is reached and the trance ends (examples – after ‘x’ time has passed; once oxygen pressure is restored).  Without modern devices, a medical specialist has a 40% chance to believe the person is dead.  While in this state the subject cannot be roused or respond to stimulation - & they are incapable of attacking or defending themselves.  At the same time, they do not require food, drink and their respiration is 1/100th of normal.  range = self; cost = 10 stamina pt/day; duration = up to 1 day p PSI score.

Lvl 1= Increased Healing:  The psionic is able to stimulate a body’s recuperative powers.  During this time damage factor recovery is quadrupled, while food & fluid consumption is doubled – the doubling figured after all other factors taken into account.  range = touch; cost = 8 stamina pts; takes 1 hour to initiate; duration = 2d4 days.

Lvl 1= Resist Fatigue:  Enables psionic to engage in physical activity without suffering from exhaustion - though stamina costs are kept track of and imposed upon the subject, +10% at the discipline’s end, which may result in the psionic collapsing.  range = self; cost = 5 stamina pts/hr; takes 1 minute to initiate; duration = up to PSI score in hours.


Lvl 2= Diagnosis:  Allows psionic to sense and determine exactly what types of physical pain, damage, poison or disease is afflicting the one touched.  range = touch; cost = 6 stamina pts; takes 1 minute to initiate; duration = immediate.

Lvl 2= Fever:  Victim feels enervated and weary, has a 102 degree fever; their init score is halved, they suffer -15% to all skill rolls, -2 to CRs and stamina costs are +50%.  range = 30’; cost = 5 stamina pts; duration = 4d4 rounds.

Lvl 2= Self Healing:  Ability for psionic to mentally heal self of physical damage.  This does not restore limbs, but it will restore 2d6 damage factors and the healing is accomplished without scarring.  range = self; cost = 2 stamina pts p pt healed; takes 1 minute; duration = perm. 


Lvl 3= Detoxification:  Psionic slows subject’s metabolism in order to remove or destroy chemicals, drugs, poisons and toxins in the subject’s body.  The harmful effects of chemicals, drugs, poisons and toxins are halted at the treatment’s onset and completely negated by its end.  Damage sustained prior to the detoxification still exists.  range = touch; cost = 12 stamina pts; takes 10 minutes.

Lvl 3= Healing Touch:  Instantly heals cuts, burns, bruises and physical wounds on subject, restoring 4d6 damage factors.  range = touch; cost = 2 stamina pts p pt healed; takes 1 minute.

Lvl 3= Vertigo:  Severe dizziness induced in subject, who is automatically last on inits and all their attack skills are halved.  range = 30’; cost = 5 stamina pts; duration = 4d4 rounds.


Lvl 4= Deafen:  Paralyzes the eardrums of subject who automatically loses init in attk situations, unless they can be warned by other means than hearing.  range = 10’; cost = 10 {or 25} stamina pts; duration = 4d4 rounds {or permanent until medically/psionically healed}.

Lvl 4= Induce Sleep:  Intended to be a recuperative power to induce sleep on an ill, exhausted or insomniac subject who falls into a normal restful sleep from which they can be easily awakened.  Unwilling subjects get a CON CR at +2 to stay awake and cannot currently be engaged in combat at the time.  range = touch; cost = 8 stamina pts; takes 10 minutes to initiate; duration = 2 hours p PSI level.

Lvl 4= Stun:  Disorients and confuses the subject, who cannot engage in combat. range = 10’ x PSI; cost = 12 stamina pts; duration = 2d4 rounds.


Lvl 5= Blind:  Knocks out the optic nerve of subject, who has all skill scores halved and all sight-based skills reduced  to 10% of original skill.  range = touch; cost = 12 {or 30} stamina pts; duration = 4d4 rounds {or permanent until medically/psionically healed}.

Lvl 5= Emotion Control-Confusion:  Leaves subject with no sense of direction, time or idea of what is going on around them.  The subject loses all combat init and all skills are halved.  range = 30’; cost = 8 stamina pts; duration = 2-20 rounds.

Lvl 5= Memory Wipe:  Psionic can wipe any one memory chain, skill, language (etc) from subject’s mind for 1 day x PSI + 1 day p PSI level.  {Or the memory chain/skill/language may be wiped away completely for 50 stamina pts & psionic must make CON CR or fall unconscious for 1-4 hours}.  range = touch; cost = 10 {or 50} stamina pts; takes 10 mins p memory wiped; duration = varies.


Lvl 6= Emotion Control-Fear:  Instills an unreasoning fear in subject, who is 50% likely to flee a threat situation if a BRV CR is failed.  All attack skills are halved and in battle subjects get –3 BRV CR or will surrender.  range = 30’; cost = 6 stamina pts; duration = 2-20 rounds.

Lvl 6= Pain Touch:  As the telepathic skill pain blast.  Used, causes subject incredible pain and their nerve breaks if they fail a BRV CR.  range = touch; cost = 10 stamina pts.

Lvl 6= Psi Surgery:  The psionic uses their hands to interpenetrate subject’s body and repair broken bones, mend internal injuries or remove foreign objects.  The Diagnoisis psionic skill must be used first.  range = touch; cost = 12 stamina pts, +6 pts p hour; takes 10 minutes to initiate; duration = takes half the conventional time for surgery.


Lvl 7= Emotion Control-Anger:  Subjects are gripped by the urge to argue/act violently/attack/harm/kill the closest individual to themselves with a failed EMP CR.  The subject has half of their defensive bonuses during this time, but are +10% to HTH attack skills during the same time.  range = 30’; cost = 6 stamina pts; duration = 2-20 rounds.

Lvl 7= Self Regeneration:  Ability to mentally heal self of physical damage.  This will restore limbs, in addition to restoring 5d6 damage factors without scarring.  range = self; cost = 2 stamina pts p pt healed – plus 10 pts p limb regrown; takes 1 minute – plus 1 hour p limb regrown; duration = perm.

Lvl 7= Tissue Alteration:  Requires knowledge of Psi Surgery.  Affects subject tissues at a cellular level, allowing alterations in shape, texture, function,  connectivity &/or appearance, through which new organs can be grown or broken ones repaired.  For instance, extra organs of sight or manipulatory members can be grown, or removed.  range = touch; cost = 5 stamina pts p damage factor affected; takes 1 minute p damage factor affected; duration = perm.


Lvl 8= Paralyze:  Immobilizes the voluntary nervous system – but not the autonomic nervous system – of a subject, completely incapacitating them.  range = touch; cost = 15 {or 40} stamina pts; duration = = 4d4 rounds {or permanent until medically/psionically healed}.

Lvl 8= Emotion Control-Tranquility:  Dispels feelings of sorrow, anger or fear in subjects and curbs their feelings of hostility.  Agitated subjects get an EMP +3 CR to reconsider their actions.  If this CR is made they will not attack that round.  Subjects may depart area – but this does not alter their allegiances or memories.  range = 30’; cost = 4 stamina pts; duration = 2-20 rounds.


Lvl 9= Limb/Organ Regeneration:  Requires knowledge of Tissue Alteration.  Ability to mentally heal subjects by restoring terminally damaged or missing organs or limbs, in addition to restoring 3d6 damage factors to subject without leaving scars.  range = touch; cost = 2 stamina pts p pt healed – plus 10 pts p limb/organ regrown; takes 10 minutes – plus 1 hour p limb/organ regrown; duration = perm.

Lvl 9= Emotion Control-Trust:  Subjects will guilelessly believe what they are told, but only while under this influence.  A LEAD –6 CR can resist this influence.  In life-threatening situations another LEAD –3 CR can further attempt to resist a suggested action.  range = 30’; cost = 6 stamina pts; duration = 2-20 rounds.


Lvl 10= Genetic Alteration:  Requires knowledge of Tissue Alteration.  Allows manipulation of cells at a genetic level, so that any desired changes made can be passed along through subject’s offspring to future generations.  range = touch; cost = 5 stamina pts p damage factor affected; takes 5 minutes p damage factor affected; duration = perm.

Lvl 10= Mind Wipe:  Psionic can wipe any one subject mind completely clear of all memories (or selectively decide what memories are removed and which ones remain.  range = touch; cost = 50 stamina pts; takes 1 hour to completely wipe mind; duration = perm.
